Varicose and Spider Veins
Treatments for Varicose Veins and Spider Veins
Varicose veins and their smaller cousin, spider veins, can be frustrating and scary. Not only do they look ugly – and make you look older than you are – but they may indicate you have a vascular (circulatory) issue that can lead to more dangerous health problems down the road.
If you suffer from varicose or spider veins and would like them evaluated or treated, Premier Vein & Vascular of Tampa and Largo, Florida, can help.
Varicose veins are enlarged veins – usually in the legs – that can be seen through the skin and appear to be gnarled and discolored. Spider veins are smaller and closer to the surface of the skin. Both occur when the valves of the veins fail to prevent blood from flowing backward on its trek from the limbs back to the heart. This causes blood to pool in the vein, the end result being telltale lumpy and rope-like veins. If you have varicose or spider veins, you may also notice symptoms that include a heavy sensation in the legs, and pain, tenderness, and/or swelling in the area.
We have a number of ways to treat varicose veins and spider veins, including ablation, and microphlebectomy or sclerotherapy. What every patient should know is that both conditions can be treated successfully, easily, and with minimal downtime.
Your doctor may also recommend that you wear compression stockings, exercise regularly, elevate your legs, avoid prolonged standing or heavy lifting, or lose weight to help improve the condition of your veins. While conservative approaches like these may not rid you of your current spider or varicose veins, they may keep you from getting more.
If you’re noticing enlarged veins in your legs, chances are others are, too. Find out what you can do about those varicose or spider veins by calling Premier Vein & Vascular at 1-888-VEINCARE. You can also use our convenient online form to request an appointment.
