About Myles Douglas, MD
Dr. Douglas is a cardiovascular, thoracic, and endovascular surgeon and the inventor of ENDOLOGIX original stent graft (Power Link) system and Red Vascular Technology Inc. system. He completed a four-year General Surgery Residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida and went on to a two-year Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis TN. In addition, he had a Fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute with Dr. Denton Cooley and Arizona Heart Institute for Endovascular Surgery.
Following a seventeen-year period performing cardiovascular, thoracic, and endovascular surgery in private practice in Memphis, TN and Orlando, FL, Dr. Douglas joined the Arizona Heart Institute (AHI) with Dr. Edward Diethrich, initially as a Fellow and then as one of their staff surgeons involved in all aspects of open heart and endovascular surgery. He became one of the leaders at AHI and internationally in performing the implantation of endovascular aortic stent grafts for aortic aneurysm repair. He was head of R&D and director of AHI's stent graft program under their FDA IDE which he helped author. Some of the Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm (TAA) cases were the first ever performed.
Also at AHI, Dr. Douglas was a Principal Investigator for many Stent Graft Phase I and II clinical trials for some of the major companies such as Medtronic, Boston Scientific, and eventually ENDOLOGIX, to name a few. While at AHI he became a co-founder of ENDOLOGIX based on his research and patents. Dr. Douglas was involved in all aspects of the commercialization of the company and its original products including designing and patenting upgrades to the original stent graft and deployment systems as needed. In addition, he was their original CEO and Medical Director, traveling internationally, organizing, proctoring, and being involved in all international clinical trials including in Japan, South America Australia, and Europe. Following his relationship with ENDOLOGIX, he began the development of a non-modular branched thoracic and abdominal aortic stent graft system for “complex” aortic aneurysms. Dr. Douglas has authored scientific papers and abstracts on less invasive surgical techniques. He has been granted multiple patents, with more in submission, encompassing endovascular therapies.
